I Afro-Costa Rican Visual Arts Gathering (EAAV)

  • Museo del Jade San José Costa Rica (map)

CONCEPT

Art demands diversity and the I Encuentro Afrocostarricense de Artes Visuales (I Afro-Costa Rican Visual Arts Gathering) is a call to the public to acknowledge the underrepresentation of the afro community in the visual art scene.

This gathering encourages the exploration of the richness, diversity, as well as problems of the Afro experience in Costa Rica, in order to understand the need to open more spaces for the Afro community both inside and outside the art world.

This exhibition is a space created within the afro community for the community, where the artists decide how to be represented and represent themselves in the world. It is also a reminder that we have the responsibility, as a community, to demand acknowledgment in the existing artistic spaces.

THE ARTISTS

The guests are Afro-Costa Rican and Afro-non-Costa Rican artists living in Costa Rica.

THE ARTWORKS

This exhibition includes artworks from a variety of visual art fields such as painting, sculpture, and photography, among others.
